What is a menstrual cup?
A menstrual cup/mooncup is a small flexible cup of silicone, TPE or rubber, which is folded and inserted like a tampon to catch the menstrual fluid there.
Inside the body, it opens again and closes tightly. Through a slight underpressure and the pelvic floor muscles it stays in place. After a while, but no more than 12 hours, you have to remove the menstrual cup, empty the contents into the toilet and clean it with water. Finally you can reuse it.

A new attitude to life!
Many women feel more or less restricted in their daily lives during their period. A menstrual cup can bring great relief here or even eliminate the problems completely from the world.
If any of the following things apply to you, a cup might be right for you:

Tampons are uncomfortable for me and can be introduced or removed just badly.
My bleeding is too weak for tampons, but I do not want to use menstrual pads.
I often suffer from vaginal infections.
I suffer from vaginal dryness.
I do not want to keep thinking about buying supplies of tampons and pads.
I no longer want to burden the environment with disposable items.
I find the smell of used tampons or pads very uncomfortable.
I do not want to have to dispose my used tampons or pads in foreign trash cans.
I do not want to have to think constantly about my monthly hygiene during my period.

A short history of menstrual cups
At the same time as the tampons, the patent for the menstrual cup was submitted in the 1930s.
1936, the first tampons are launched on the market.
In the late 1950s, the first cup made of rubber is produced and marketed.
Both products are initially rejected by the women. The tampon, however, prevails, the production of the cups has been temporarily discontinued.
Only in the late 1980s, the cups begin to spread among women.
In recent years, the menstrual cup is experiencing a boom. Finally, the development of the technology allows the production of mass suitable and high quality menstrual cups.
February 2017, the first Merula cups come on the market. Menstrual cups that can fit to any woman type.

Color instead of frustration!
Instead of having to spend a lot of time determining the right size for you, looking at the box instructions and, in the end, buying an inappropriate cup, you will just have to decide the color of your future Merula cup and the design of the storage bag.

This is how the Merula cup works:
Insert and remove:
Press the upper edge of the Merula cup in one place to the very bottom of the cup and then fold it together. This makes it narrow and pointed and easy to insert.
You can moisten the cup with a little water or apply a bit of water-based lubricant. Insert the folded cup and make sure that the upper edge opens again inside. The rest of the cup may remain crumpled. If the cup leaks, try correcting the position. The cup does not have to be inserted as deep as a tampon.
To remove press the cup slightly down and grab the handle. Move the cup down with slow zigzag movements until you reach the underside of the cup. Then press this with a finger to release the slight underpressure. Now you can safely remove the cup and then clean it.

Cleaning it up:
Before use, boil the Merula cup for 5 minutes in water with a splash of vinegar, in a pot or microwave oven, for the first time and after each period. The cup can be worn up to a maximum of 12 hours at a time, but can also be changed more often if needed.
Empty the contents of the cup into the toilet after each removal and thoroughly rinse the cup under running water. To avoid discolouration, you should always use cold water first. If you are forced to empty your Merula cup on a toilet without a private washbasin, despite your long wearing time and great capacity, you can exceptionally wipe the cup with a piece of toilet paper or a paper tissue and put it back in again. But at the next opportunity, please absolutely clean it immediately. Between two cleanings with water should never be more than 12 hours.
Always store your Merula cup in an airy container, for example the bag provided in the delivery. With optimal care you can use your cup for several years. If your cup shows material defects, please throw it away and buy a new one. Although slight discolouration is normal over time.

Find the perfect length:
Try the Merula cup first. Then you can shorten the ladder according to your individual length. To do this, carefully remove the handle with a pair of nail scissors. The menstrual cup should be and remain completely inside your body, but be still easily reachable with a finger.
